Itinerary

DAY 1, Sunday - Arrive in Florence, Transfer to Montecatini
Arrive in Florence and transfer from the Florence airport to Montecatini Terme. Admire panoramic views of the sprawling Italian countryside as you drive through the Tuscan Hills toward the charming city of Montecatini. Upon arrival at your hotel, enjoy the balance of the day at leisure in this lovely world-renowned spa town, famed for its spring waters, thermal baths, mudpacks, and massages. This evening enjoy a welcome drink and dinner at your hotel.

DAY 2, Monday - Siena & San Gimignano Sightseeing
Today, visit two of Tuscany's true gems, Siena and the medieval walled town of San Gimignano. Set in the beautiful Tuscan countryside with lush vine escarpments and gray-green olive trees, Siena offers much to see, from the fine palaces that line its cobbled streets to the Duomo and celebrated Piazza del Campo where the Palio Horserace is run twice each year. Enjoy lunch in Siena before traveling to San Gimignano, a town of Etruscan origin. Built by early noble families, the fourteen remaining stone towers that line the ramparts of this medieval town, dominate the streets below, and create a beautiful skyline easily seen several miles outside of town. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure.

DAY 3, Tuesday - Florence City Tour
After breakfast, depart for Florence by train. Upon arrival, walk to Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, where you will view Ghiberti's famous "Gates of Paradise" at the Baptistery. Marvel at the Statue of David by Michelangelo in the Academy of Fine Arts before continuing to the open-air art museum of Signoria Square, with the beautiful statues of the Loggia dei Lanzi and Palazzo Vecchio, the seat of the city government for centuries. Enjoy lunch in the ancient Byzantine Tower of the Hotel Brunelleschi, followed by a visit to the San Lorenzo Market and jewelry laboratories on the famed Ponte Vecchio.

DAY 4, Wednesday - Visit to the Cinque Terre
Depart this morning for Porto Venere a Mediterranean coastal town east of Montecatini. Visit the Cinque Terre, one of the most beautiful areas of the Liguria region. Here, five small villages are suspended between sea and earth, nestled in the cliffs overlooking the sea and hills where the land's finest wines are grown. Enjoy lunch in the picturesque village of Monterosso before returning to Montecatini for dinner.

DAY 5, Thursday - Walking Tour of Lucca & Pisa
Begin your full day excursion by visiting the ancient medieval town of Lucca, one of the most fascinating towns in Tuscany. Upon arrival, walk the narrow streets of the original Roman grid to San Michele and its beautiful piazza, which occupies the site of the original Roman Forum. Continue to visit a local farm that specializes in the production of wine and extra virgin olive oil. Enjoy typical Tuscan products for lunch as you taste the regional olive oil and wines. Then, travel to Pisa, with its signature Piazza dei Miracoli. The four monuments of this extraordinary piazza represent a unique architectural blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles, featuring a striking combination of white marble and green granite.

DAY 6, Friday - Modena
After breakfast, depart for Villa San Donnino in Modena and tour the "Home of Balsamic Vinegar". Here you will tour the Villa to see how Modena's famed balsamic vinegar is produced. After the tour you will enjoy a lunch featuring the Villa's balsamic vinegar. After lunch you will carry on to Bologna, this al-too-often-overlooked, lovely city and the capital of the Emiglia-Romagna region. Here you will have a guided tour of the city (partially on foot and partially by bus) Bologna is home to the oldest university in Western Europe, the University of Bologna, which was founded in 1088. You will visit the Basilica of San Petronio, one of the largest basilicas in the world.

DAY 7, Saturday - Full Day in Montecatini
The day is yours to spend as you wish in Montecatini. As every woman is in need of a little pampering, perhaps visit the most celebrated of the city's spa facilities, the Terme Tettuccio. For centuries, Montecatini has been heralded as an exclusive health resort and spa, patronized by the crowned heads of 19th-century Europe and the modern jet set, and famed for its spring waters, thermal baths and treatments. Indulge in one of the many therapies offered by the Terme, including drinking cures, thermal baths, general massages, sub-water massages, respiratory treatments, and facials using the area's delicate mud. Enjoy a farewell dinner with your fellow Gutsy companions in the evening.
